FALMOUTH GOES GLOBAL
The eyes of the world will soon be able to see Falmouth from anywhere, at anytime of day and night, as a new private initiative launches a new webcam service for the town.
Falmouthphotos.com, Bistro Del a Mer, Falmouth Oil Services, the Falmouth Beach Hotel, A&P Falmouth Docks, Harvey’s Wharf, King Harry’s Cornwall and the Maritime Museum have all worked together, funded and planned the siting of three new web cameras to help promote Falmouth - the UK’s runner up of Britain’s Best Coastal Town, recently awarded by Coast magazine.
Initiated by Paul Harry, owner of falmouthphotos.com, the main aim of the new scheme is to allow internet users to see the many changing faces of the town, to appreciate the quality of the beaches and discover the bustling, thriving harbour.
Paul says: “This year will see the arrival of over 20 Tall Ships from all over the globe as they congregate for the Funchal 500 Regatta. Our high resolution webcams will show off the splendour of Falmouth’s historic harbour.”
Two of the cameras will be based on the Museum’s tower, one facing up river and the other looking towards the Carrick Roads and the Docks. Another is planned for the roof of the Falmouth Beach Resort Hotel looking out over Gyllyngvase.
Tony Ward, owner of Bistro Del a Mer said: “We need to do everything we can to emphasise how great a town Falmouth is, not only for ourselves, but to potential visitors on land, on the water and by air. Having live views can only enhance prospective visitor’s web experience to further entice them to visit this splendid harbour town.”
Tamsin Loveless from the Museum said: “Tourism thrives on partnership and this new initiative is the perfect marriage of private businesses wanting the best for the town and working together to maximise the potential of each others organisations. We want visitors to our website to really get to know Falmouth and to see a number of reasons why to visit and this opportunity embraces all these needs – and there is no better view of the town than that from the tower!”
Toby Budd from King Harry's Cornwall added: ''We are constantly adding new webcams to our website which promotes King Harry's Cornwall and our 80 partners in the area, it is a great asset for our site and brings good high quality traffic. The new webcams being installed by this partnership are excellent quality and I am sure will be very popular''
The webcams will be up and running from the end of June. Just visit any of the above businesses website after June to see the webcam views for yourself.
